ADAPT of WV is a group of people with disabilities that want their rights and want them NOW! Are you not getting the service that you need? Are you stuck in a nursing home? Or, do you know someone that is and doesn't need to be? Are you having problems with Medicaid? Does just living in WV make you want to SCREAM? Well, you have found people who can help!

What are you so fired up about?

We are fired up because approximately 2000 people in WV are in nursing homes and say they want to get out. We don't have the luxury of being patient anymore. People are dying in nursing homes just because they
have a disability, even though living in the community is often cheaper.

Why don't you just wait for the system to work ?

The system doesn't listen to us. We tried to work in the system and we have failed., and friends have died as a result. Besides, using "work"and "the system" in the same sentence is an oxymoron. See, we do have a sense of humor...

Why do you seem so angry sometimes ?

Because we know what it is like to be trapped in a nursing home and in an institution because we were there once. We now feel like others in the same position are our brothers and sisters, because we share the
same horrible experience of being incarcerated just because you have a disability. Wouldn't you try to help if it were you? We will not compound the problem by doing things that don't contribute in a meaningful way to the problems that face people with disabilities. We want to work for REAL action!
