Social Studies

From early civilization to present day history, the members of the Social Studies Department stimulate students to discover aspects of their origins and the progression through time. The department is responsible for enabling students to understand the political, geographical, economic, and social world and become responsible and respectable citizens in today’s ever-changing and culturally diverse world. As we enter the twenty-first century, the United States remains an international leader and role model for democracy. Social Studies education is the heart and soul that provides students with the knowledge necessary to understand the strength and challenges of our country and the skills to make it even greater one day.

Students are required to take four years of the core Social Studies classes—World History, American History to 1900, American History 20-21 st Centuries, and Civics. In addition to the core classes, the department offers a variety of electives to enable students to explore areas beyond those which are required. These classes include two advanced placement classes—AP American History and AP Human Geography— and the semester classes of Psychology, Sociology, and Study of the Holocaust.
